Sleep like a log? Not anymore.

May 10th, 2009

Sometimes I wonder if I am suffering from insomnia. When I was younger I had no problems falling asleep like a log. Just closed my eyes and boom, off into wonder land. Nowadays, I have trouble just trying to go into a semi-conscious state (besides whacking myself on the head with a stick). I’m I getting older? I wonder. I think it could be due to stress at work and the many responsibilities I have to take as I grow older. Perhaps when we were young things were much simpler and carefree. As you might already experience, once the mind starts to work, it becomes hard to slow down and rest. I’ve often experienced nights where I would lie on the bed and still the monkey mind would be churning overtime.

Oh really? That’s funny…

July 3rd, 2008

What is funny? You ever thought about that? What makes a joke, or for that matter, anything said funny? Now, not to blow my own horn, but I am a moderately funny (is there even such a term?) guy. So I guess I have some experience to speak from on this topic. Being funny is being just yourself. In a way, it is a lifestyle. You don’t try to make jokes and make people laugh. Those are the kinds where you try too hard and expect people to react positively. Usually it doesn’t work and people can tell. It’s hard to describe, when you are in the mood, you just naturally think of insane things to say. There is no contrived effort to make jokes.

health is wealth

April 10th, 2008

As you may already know, I am quite a health-conscious person. If I had the time, I would be reading all sorts of health blogs and sites all day long (ok maybe not all day). Now I do take some vitamin pills to boost my health. Here’s the thing I notice: There seems to be an infinite number of products that addresses a huge variety of potential health problems. It seems that the modern life style is not without it’s vices. Think a hundred years back, cancer and other chronic diseases were virtually non-existent. Now? It’s become one of the top killers of the century. Why is this so? Oh there are so many factors. The food, the pre-packaged food and the problems with micro-waved food (don’t even go there). Then there is the intense electromagnetic bombardment due to a boggling array of electronic devices. All these seems to encourage degradation of our dna and cells.

Readers are Leaders

December 16th, 2007

When you were young, did you ever have those childhood interest? Like what you wanted to be when you grow up. I did. For some strange reason (or maybe not so), I was hooked on reading. I remember my dad buying me this encyclopedia set. I would devour it like a mad man. I was particularly interested in science. How to and where did things come from. That sort of thing. If it was something curious that popped in my little head, I would scamper over to the bookshelf to find it. A to Z. You got it. Somehow, I think it kinda shaped my future interests. I wanted to be a scientist, researching stuff and proving things.

Let me tell you a funny story…

April 14th, 2007

I was watching those comedy movies again recently. Some were great and some not so good. So that got me thinking….what makes a movie funny? Is it the lines? The actors? Or the script? I think it is a combination of both. Now, let’s take a look at what is not funny. I was on the plane some months back and watched the love guru. I had planned to watch it in the cinemas, but somehow never found the time. Thank god for that. Between me and 10,000 feet of air, i was trapped on my seat watching a mike myers who was trying too hard to be funny…

Keep the notes going

November 25th, 2006

I was watching television the other day and saw those pop idols doing their things on stage. That kept me going and had a thought going. How is it to live the life of these stars? Now, no doubt there is much fame and fortune in this profession. But we may not see the darker side of the entertainment industry. Imagine the stress and pressure to live up to the public image and sponsers? Sounds like a cliche but these artistes are your average people just like you and me. Take away all the glitz and glamour and they are normal folks. So why this particular harsh treatment on them? I mean on the tabloid news and gossip of who is sleeping with who, etc.

It’s in the accent

January 4th, 2006

I was reading some article one day when this title grabbed my attention: British people are seen as more intelligent and cultured when they spoke as compared to their American counter-parts. Oh really? Hmmm that’s really interesting. The article went on to state some of the reasons for this. Apparently it was the way the british accent was spoken that gave an air of dignity and intelligence. “When you speak with a british accent, your IQ immediately

Cupid’s arrow strikes again

February 14th, 2005

It’s that time of the year again people. Valentine’s Day. That’s right. Your’s truly here is single this year and was not expecting to go out on the streets. Grovelling with those couples? Oh please. That’s the last thing i’ll do. But things often have a way of turning into something you didn’t expect. No i wasn’t talking about getting a date. The last gal i went out with wasn’t really my type, or it might have been a different story altogether.

The Coffee Addict

January 3rd, 2005

I think i’m starting to get addicted on caffinated beverages. First it was tea. Now it’s coffee. Iced coffee to be exact. Is it just a reflex action? Or it’s really the caffine that is addictive? I don’t know. I was talking to this doctor the other day (had to take sick leave) and he told me he was addicted to tea. Had terrible headaches if he ever skipped on them.

Counting the days…

June 10th, 2004

Oh yes a new calendar just came out. This year’s edition looks good and i really like the design. I wonder though, did the publishers make any changes to it? I swear to god that it seems different. Last year’s calendar design was pretty dull and boring. This year’s looks…hmmm how should i put it…different. Honestly i can’t really tell the difference, but it just doesn’t look, wait let me re-word that..
